Mumps Vaccination Campaign Launched Across Ontario
In Ontario, people born between 1975 and 1995 were likely offered only a single dose of the MMR vaccine as a young child. Since 1996, most children have been offered a second dose of MMR vaccine before starting elementary school. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization now recommends that students borne in 1970 or later be offered a second dose of MMR vaccine if they have not already had two doses of vaccine. People borne before 1970 are assumed to have natural immunity to mumps. Therefore, the mumps vaccine is being offered on campuses for students born between 1970 and 1995.
