When Should I have a Checkup?
If you are a healthy female on no medication: every 2 years.Current guidelines for pap smears are every 2 years if you have had no recent abnormal pap smears or previous surgery on your cervix. If you are a member of the Family health Team and between the ages of 30-69, you will receive a reminder letter to come for a pap smear once 2 years have passed since your last pap. Over age 50 you will also receive a reminder when you are due for a mammogram or colon cancer screen.
Women under age 30 should continue to have annual Pap smears.
If you are a healthy male on no medication: every 2-3 years. If you are a member of the Family Health Team and 50 years or older you will receive a reminder if it has been more than two years from our last stool kit (screen for colon cancer).
Newborns: generally 48-72 hours after discharge from hospital, then as decided with your doctor to one month of age. then 2, 4, 6 and 9 month old checkups. These are important visits to check that your child is growing and developing normally.
Toddlers: 1 year. 18 months and two years
Preschoolers: annually
School age children and teenagers: every 2-3 years if no concerns
